Nepal participates in Sales Mission in France, Belgium & ITB 2007
|
The Sales Mission was organized to disseminate the message of peace and stability witnessed in the country recent months and, to foster the already existing warm relations amongst Nepal and the two friendly nations viz. France and Belgium. The highlight at both the programs was the presence of famous personalities from the world of adventure tourism specially the climbers of Mt. Everest. The first Everest Summitter of France and Member of Constitutional Assembly Mr. Pierre Mazeaud and other mountaineers- Marc Barard, Rober Parague, Guido Mayhem and Mr.Robert Haygh, Jacque Pirence, Willy Trorch from Belgium were felicitated for their heroic achievements as well as tourism promotion of Nepal. Legendary climbers Mr. Maurice Herzog of France who climbed Annapurna in 1950 becoming first person to climb mountain above 8,000 meter hgh and Mr. Pierre Humblet of Belgium were the chief guests at the programs in Paris and Brussels respectively Speaking at the Paris and Brussels program, Mr. Ghimire emphasized that the change in the political situation in the country had ushered in myriads of prospect in the development and promotion of tourism. He further added that time has come now that the benefit of this new situation should be reaped by the travel trade more than any other sector. Highlighting on the significance of tourism in Nepal's national economy, he further stated that Nepal depends significantly on tourism as an important economic activity that has positively affected both the rural and urban people. "Hence tourism has been the most effective means to contribute to the economic progress of Nepal. The recent growth in the arrival numbers of the tourists speaks volumes in the confidence of consumers as well as operators towards Nepal." He stressed that safety and security is no more an issue for the people to travel to Nepal. He also informed the guests that the Government of Nepal would leave no stone unturned to assist the trade to make Nepal the most tourist friendly destination. Similarly, Charge d' Affairs of the Embassy of Nepal in France and Belgium stressed the commitment of the missions to fully cooperate and assist the media and trade. President of Nepal Mountaineering Association Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa spoke of the importance of mountain tourism in Nepal and its overall impact to the people. Manager at Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Diwakar B. Rana thanked all the invited guests for their gracious presence and sparing their valuable time. More than 70 media, trade, Summitters attended the program in Paris while Brussels saw a turn out of over 50. Mr. Ghimire also met with officials of OECD and UNESCO during his stay in Paris Mr. Ghimire exchanged his thoughts soliciting help for restoration of Nepal's renowned world heritage sites. During his stay, he also met with the donor luminaries like Chairman of Official Development Assistance (ODA) Mr. Richard Manning. Mr. Ghimire strongly stressed on the priority areas demanding urgent attention in the areas of tourism through bilateral help. Similarly, Mr. Ghimire also met with the Deputy Director General of UNESCO with whom issues related to Nepal's heritage conservation efforts were discussed at threadbare. The inaugural day at ITB 2007 saw veteran Everest climber Mr. Reinhold Messner visit the Nepal pavilion. Mr. Messner signed autographs, posed for photograph and spoke of his love for the people of Nepal. He said that he was glad that peace had finally prevailed in Nepal and the country could now reap the benefits of tourism it deserved. Felicitating Mr. Messner for his tireless efforts in the tourism promotion of Nepal, Secretary Mr. Madhav Ghimire thanked Mr. Messener for a job well done. He also expressed the full commitment of the Government of Nepal along with the travel trade for the development and promotion of tourism in the country. Along with Nepal Tourism Board, 16 private sector companies and travel trade are participating at ITB 2007 this year. |
